Wilmer founded Poynor Properties in 1992. Poynor Properties merged with Ray & Company in 1997, and Wilmer served as vice president. After First Real Estate Corporation of Alabama and Ray & Company merged with RealtySouth, Wilmer served as the regional Vice President from 2000 until 2009. Ray & Poynor Properties was formed in 2010.

A longtime Mountain Brook resident, Wilmer has raised his family in the community he calls home. He is deeply engaged locally, serving on the Magic Moments Board, Monday Morning Quarterback Club, Birmingham Business Alliance, and Residential Sales Council, and is an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
