Tonya was born on March 30, 1980, in Mississippi to Patricia and Harvey Jones. She has one brother, Mike Jones, who resides in Birmingham. After finishing high school, Jones attended Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi, on a softball scholarship. After her two-year collegiate experience, she enrolled in a small cosmetology school in Columbus, Mississippi, where she became a licensed cosmetologist.
Jones then moved back home to work at the most prestigious salon in Laurel, Mississippi—The Studio of Hair Design—which was ranked among the Top 200 salons in America. She completed an internship and built a strong clientele, realizing she had an entrepreneurial spirit passed down from her parents, who were both entrepreneurs. Inspired to continue her education, Jones returned to college and attended the University of Southern Mississippi, majoring in Business and Accounting while continuing to work full time.
After moving to Birmingham, Alabama, in the spring of 2004 to be closer to her older brother Mike, Jones was hired as a lead hairstylist and education director for Richard Joseph SalonSpa in English Village. She also became a traveling educator for Aveda and Qnity.
Tonya Jones Salon Spa, an Aveda Lifestyle Salon, was founded by Tonya Jones on November 9, 2009, with the goal of building a team that loved working together toward one common vision. Her hard work and determination to help make everyone successful have made this dream a reality. Within Jones herself is the power to inspire people to reach their full potential; in doing so, she holds her team to the highest standard of excellence.
Birmingham is also where she met her husband, Bryan Combs, who holds a PhD from the UAB School of Nursing. He is also the owner of Village Healthcare in Mountain Brook, Alabama. The couple married in May 2006 and reside outside of English Village with their dog, Grace Jones. In their free time, they can often be found out in the community dining, playing golf, and walking Grace.
Civitas Restaurant | Bar was also founded by Tonya Jones and opened in 2021.
